Let's Talk about Girl Power
SuperChick- Anthem
Here’s to the ones who don’t give up
This is your anthem, get your hands up
We are fire inside, we are lipstick in cleats
We are not going home and we are playin for keeps
We are girls who skin knees
We are concrete and grace
We are not what you think
Can’t keep us in our place
[Chorus]
Here’s to the girls on their boards
With bruises and scars,
here’s to the girls whose fingers bleed form playing guitar
here’s to anyone who never guilt when things got hard
You’ll never let them say “You’ll never get that far.
Never get that far”.
We are fire inside we are an army asleep
We are a people awaking to follow their dreams
We don’t have time for your games, we have our own goals to score
There are trophies to win instead of being one of yours!
[Chorus]
Here’s to the ones who don’t give up
This is your anthem (3x)
[Chorus]

Ruth and Esther: Story on Survival. Faith. Bravery. Love.
The book of Ruth:
Let's break it down, Jesus Christ the greatest hero of them all that was both human and God, had a human family. That family had to start from somewhere and out of all the lines tracing back through the ages of heroes and kings there is one person that started the family, it was not a man it was Ruth. Because of her bravery, and faithfulness she would start the line of people that leads to Christ!
What did she do that was brave? She was a foreigner that was hated among the people and should have been a nobody, but God favored her and as she was working God called her into action to serve in the house of Boaz one of the cities prime leaders. This would be the same as a Mexican illegal youth working in the white house. In the face of being a Moabite in a land that hated Moabites, in the face of being a woman -which in that culture was used as an object rather than a equal, Ruth stood firm and attempted to live in order to support her elderly mother in law (Naomi).
One day while working in the fields, guards came to her to hurt her and send her off, but Boaz saw her and rescued her. Noami then had an idea: At the Barley festival (a whole night of Los Vegas style partying) Ruth should dress in disguise as one of the women at the event and should meet with Boaz. She braved a dangerous place for her to be, and with great faith approached Boaz. That night they fell in love. The story would normally end there, but the very next day Boaz fought for her legal status in order to marry her and it was through his own faithfulness that he won the vote. They married, had kids and lived happily ever after. A story of faith in the moment of danger, love that jumps over gender and race leads to a Christ that comes into a dark world to reach everyone no matter the gender or race.
The book of Esther:
Taken from her home at a very young age because of her physical beauty, and a child to be abused by a foreign conqueror of her people (Persians), Esther would rise save her entire people. How?
The king was already married, but the queen would not come to one of his parties so he had her killed and sent for all of the beautiful children to be raised and trained to be his next wife. Esther was one of those children. She then was raised to serve. Meanwhile the Israelites were being bullied by the Persians and the king was wanting to do more and more violent things to the people. When Esther was a young teen, not any older than any of you, she was brought before the king for an inspection, and again weighed just on her beauty he made her his new wife, queen of all.
Now again, the last queen was killed just for refusing and challenging the king. Yet God called upon Esther to do just that. For as the story progresses the king decides it would be fun to kill all of her people. God called her to speak out. So with all eyes on her she approaches the throne bows down and uses her place as queen to bring attention to this. She challenges him and demands that her people be not killed. This is dangerous for two reasons: First, because this is a death sentence, but even if the king doesn't react like he did before, the second -that she would be admitting that she would also die. Admitting that she was an Israelite to the court and placing herself in the fate of the rest of her people.
The Jewish bible says that Angels were present to aid with her, but in our Christian bibles it leaves that out not mentioning God at all. Sometimes we feel like this, that God is not present in our lives. But this is of course not the case, even when we feel that we are alone God is always there helping us as a silent, invisible force. The Christian bible then uses this thought and doesn't reveal God's nature. So here she stood alone, scared, but brave in the face of evil. And it was through her speech/that bravery that convinced the king to change his mind and saved her people.
Things to remember:
LOYALTY: devoted attachment and affection; devotion to a person or cause; fidelity. Ruth showed loyalty to Naomi by traveling with her to Israel. Esther stands up for her people in the face of certain death.
FAITHFUL: worthy of complete trust; steadfast. Firm belief in God. With Ruth, Naomi, and Boaz were faithful to each other and to God, and God was faithful to all. With Esther, she stays faithful in God even when it is very scary.
FAMILY: a group of people with common ancestry or united by certain convictions. A group of individuals living under one roof. God gives us families in which to interact and care for one another.
Family Prayer:
Gracious God, we give you thanks for the gift of family. Thank you for the people in our lives who are loyal to us and give us support and encouragement. Be with us as we learn how to follow the example of your servant Ruth, in order to be loyal and faithful members of our families. Let us remember just like with Esther you are always around us, even when we can't see you. Help us to fight for those we love and know that you have given them to us as a gift.
Open our eyes, ears, hearts, and minds to what you will teach us. Amen.
